December 4, 2020 — Two well-known budget airlines, Germany’s Eurowings and Spain’s Vueling, cancelled flights to two key Croatian destinations — Split and Dubrovnik. They had planned to offer these flights for December and January, respectively.
In November, Eurowings announced its flight schedule for December this year. The airline offered a few more flights to Croatian destinations, Zagreb and Split, just in time for the holidays.
Even though Eurowings had planned to offer the direct Split – Cologne route, this will not happen, according to Croatian Aviation. The airline’s original plan was to offer these flights from December 22 to January 10 twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays. However, low demand due to the new COVID-19 restrictions at border crossings forced the company to cancel this route.
Nevertheless, Eurowings will continue offering flights from Dusseldorf and Stuttgart to Split, and flights to Zagreb. More information about those flights here.
Vueling Cancels Plans for Barcelona – Dubrovnik Route for January 2021
Vueling, the Spanish budget airline, announced at the end of October that it would launch a Barcelona – Dubrovnik route in January 2021.
Regular flights on this route were on sale twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday. However, Vueling was also forced to cancel these flights. They are currently planning to resume service to Dubrovnik before the summer season begins, in April next year.
The company tried to attract passengers to Dubrovnik in January at very reasonable prices, but their efforts were not enough. Considering the new travel restrictions to Croatia, which went into effect December 1, these flight cancellations are no surprise.
Therefore, Dubrovnik has lost its only scheduled flight this winter. In addition, there will be no international flights to and from Dubrovnik until the spring of next year.
Split remains connected by the following airlines:
- Croatia Airlines — Frankfurt, Rome and Munich
- Edelweiss — Zurich
- KLM — Amsterdam
- Eurowings — Dusseldorf and Stuttgart
