November 2, 2020 — Jonas Deichmann, one of the world’s best triathletes, has decided to swim 460 kilometers along the Croatian coast as part of his “360 Degree Triathlon” project. He is currently swimming along the Croatian coast from Karlobag to Dubrovnik. He is planning to swim 120 times the distance covered by competitors of the famous Ironman triathlon.
Deichmann holds two world records: he was the fastest to cycle Europe, followed by Eurasia. He also crossed the legendary Pan-American by bicycle — it took him 98 days to bike 23,000 kilometers.
Last year it took him 72 days to reach Cape Town in South Africa from Cape North in Norway!
Deichmann Enjoyed Swimming With Dolphins En Route from Karlobag
This time, he cycled through the mountains, from Munich to Karlobag, and he is swimming from Karlobag to Dubrovnik! On day 35 of his adventure, he reached Makarska and enjoyed swimming with dolphins, according to Slobodna dalmacija.
On Sunday afternoon he was in Tučepi. Today, Monday November 2, he will continue his journey to Igrane. Emil Talijančić will be hosting and will provide him with a boat escort from Igrane to Hvar. After Hvar, Deichmann will swim from Korčula to Dubrovnik. And after that, he will head to China by bike!
Port of Zadar Like ‘Swimming on German Motorway’ Because of Speedboats
On his Facebook page “Jonas Deichmann Adventures”, Deichmann reports in detail on the beautiful sights and adversities of his challenge. Bad weather hampered the beginning of his journey. In addition, while crossing the port of Zadar, he felt like he was ‘swimming on a German motorway’. He could barely see where he was due to the large waves caused by speedboats. Swimming from Zadar to Makarska, he reveals that he is enjoying perfect weather and views of the spectacular coastline of beaches and mountains.
In addition to swimming between 11 and 16 kilometers every day, Deichmann mentions the “five-star accommodations” which he easily finds every night under the open sky along the Adriatic coast: he sleeps in a sleeping bag on the beaches and under treetops.
